Mingchih, which means bright lake in Chinese and also known as Chihtuan, is located on the Northern Cross-Island Route at Tatung Village in Yilan County. Mingchih Forest Recreation Area is at about 1150 to 1700 meters above sea level with youth activities center, nursery, forest trails and other recreational facilities in it. Because of the high altitude, Mingchih is covered in fog most year round. Surrounded by pristine forests, Mingchih is even magnificent with the foggy scenery. Willows and cypress woodland are commonly found here. Visitors can take relaxing strolls on the walkways around the lake area and rest at the various sheds.
